Hey. I heard about this iniciative and though i should introduce myself. I illustrate a bit and know my way around design. Hope i can be of help with the conceptual art and game graphics, if needed. =]

Hi Vagal

As you can see, you are the first artist to have replied here. If you want any information, then feel free to ask here. For your information:

Scheme7's graphics are currently vector based, but that will change, and all the sprites and so on will end being pixel based.

If you are looking for actual, real work, then the following needs doing, and would be placed into the game pretty quickly:

A logo; which would be on the front screen.
Some concept art of 'a far distant future, an empty world, a prardise lot'
Choose or make a font for the game.
Make the surrounding border a lot better (this will show things like ammo, energy left and so on.
Some work on what the player ship and other sprites might look like.
An explosion animation (maybe hard).

One more thing - how did you find us?
